In March 2025, US President Donald Trump appointed Mark Brnovic as US Ambassador to Serbia, as a member of the
Republican Party and after his distinguished career as the Attorney General of the Federal State of Arizona between 2015 and
- The President rightly proposed something to change the decades-old narrative about Serbs in the American public. And
even if it is not exactly so, here we are to think that it may have been an idea, although it was not. Mark Brnovic is an American
lawyer and politician of Serbian origin born in 1966 in Detroit, Michigan. His parents are Serbs, his father from Montenegro and his
mother from Dalmatia.
It was one of the rare, very rare positive messages from the US administration. We hoped and were sure that it was a done
deal, expecting a new ambassador. Time passed and it was already strange why America did not have its ambassador in the
country that is the backbone of the Balkans. But, alas, the answer has only now arrived, and it is disappointing.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has withdrawn the nomination of Mark Brnovic for ambassador to Serbia,
according to a decision published on the website of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
“I want to thank the President (Donald Trump) for the nomination, but as the process dragged on, it became clear that the
‘deep state’ bureaucracies do not want someone with my political, ethical and religious background to serve in Serbia. Ultimately, I
believe that staying close to family and friends in Arizona and finding opportunities to play a greater role in domestic politics is the
best path at this time,” Brnovic told the Serbian Times portal.
The question still remains: who will be the US ambassador? If the explanation is that the “deep state” holds this position, the
story remains the same as we have learned for a long time, but there is hope that there are civil servants in America for whom
justice resides in their heads and not in their maces or bank accounts.
