It is a great honor to extend heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, Attorney Mark Brnovich. An accomplished American attorney and public servant, Brnovich served as the 26th Attorney General of Arizona from 2015 to 2023 and was recently appointed to his new diplomatic role by President Donald Trump.
Born in Detroit in 1966 to Serbian parents who immigrated from the former Yugoslavia—his father from Montenegro and his mother from Split, Croatia—Brnovich was raised with strong values rooted in faith, family, and freedom. His mother came to the United States to escape communism, and the family eventually settled in Arizona, where they became active members of their local Serbian Orthodox parish in Phoenix.
Brnovich holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Arizona State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. While at ASU, he was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity. His service as a Command Staff Judge Advocate with the Army National Guard and his extensive legal career highlight his deep commitment to public service.
Throughout his career, Brnovich has held a number of key legal and regulatory roles. He has served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arizona, and Director of the Arizona Department of Gaming. As Attorney General, he became a nationally recognized advocate for consumer rights, securing over $1.5 billion in judgments and settlements for Arizona residents. He personally argued three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, chaired the Conference of Western Attorneys General, and pioneered the nation’s first fintech regulatory sandbox.
Brnovich is widely respected not only for his legal expertise but also for his unwavering work ethic, integrity, and principled leadership. In recognition of his accomplishments and service, he received the prestigious Czar Dushan Award from the Chicago Serbian Bar Association in 2016. That same year, Desko Nikitovic was honored with the Major Feldman Award for his contributions as the Serbian Consul General.
With three decades of public service, Mark Brnovich brings a wealth of experience and deep cultural roots to his new role. His background, combined with his moral character, legal acumen, and dedication to serving others, makes him exceptionally well-suited to represent the United States as Ambassador to Serbia.
We extend our sincere congratulations to Attorney Brnovich on this significant appointment. May his heritage, faith, and lifelong commitment to justice and public service continue to guide him in this important role.
God bless you, Ambassador Mark Brnovich!
